Agu benched as Werder Bremen face Mainz clash

Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu will not start against Mainz in their upcoming Bundesliga clash, with head coach Ole Werner confirming the Nigerian-eligible fullback will begin the match on the bench as the team rotates its lineup.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Werner explained the decision was tactical rather than disciplinary. “Felix is available, but we have chosen a different option for the starting eleven,” the coach said.

Agu has been part of Bremen’s defensive rotation this season, contributing energy and pace on the flanks while competing for minutes in a crowded back line. The defender, who has made several league appearances during the campaign, remains an option to influence the game later from the bench.

Werner stressed that the squad depth is key for Bremen’s push in the Bundesliga. “We need everyone ready because matches are decided by small details,” he added.
