Ajax Confirm Akpom Has Joined Promoted Ipswich Town on a Permanent Deal

Chuba Akpom is staying in Suffolk. And he’s got Premier League football to look forward to.

Ajax Amsterdam confirmed on Tuesday that Ipswich Town have exercised the option to buy clause from Akpom’s loan deal, making the 30-year-old striker’s move to Portman Road permanent. He’d been contracted to Ajax until 2028 before the transfer went through.

The timing is perfect. Ipswich won automatic promotion back to the Premier League on the final day of the Championship season. Akpom becomes a top-flight player again.

He arrived at Ajax with strong scoring credentials and never quite got going at the Amsterdam club. The loan to Ipswich was meant to reignite things — and now it’s led to a permanent deal. Nigeria-eligible, he’s yet to make a senior Super Eagles appearance.
