Akor Adams Winner Completes Sevilla Comeback Against Villarreal

Akor Adams made history on Tuesday and rescued a point — well, three — for Sevilla in the process. The Nigerian striker scored the winner on 72 minutes as Sevilla came back from 2-0 down to beat Villarreal 3-2 at the Estadio de la Cerámica, and in doing so became the first Nigerian player to hit double figures in La Liga in 12 years.

His 10th league goal of the season puts him level with the best Nigerian output in the Spanish top flight since Ikechukwu Uche bagged 14 for Villarreal back in 2013-14.

The win pushed Sevilla four points clear of the relegation zone with two games left. They’re also now three points off seventh, which would mean European football. A few weeks ago, survival was the question. Now they’re looking up the table. Adams has scored the late winner against Espanyol too — he’s turned into their most important player at exactly the right time.
