Andrade's Betrayal Hands Briscoe AEW Title Shot at Forbidden Door

Mark Briscoe earned an AEW World Championship match against champion MJF after Andrade El Idolo turned on his own side during a 12-man steel cage match at AEW Forbidden Door on June 28, 2026. Andrade, who had been assigned to MJF’s team, stripped off his “Team DCMJF” shirt mid-match and struck MJF with his signature backfist, effectively ending the champion’s chances. Briscoe then pinned Jake Doyle following a Jay Driller to secure the victory for his team.

The match placed all 12 competitors inside a circular cage, a format AEW debuted for the occasion. The structure produced a chaotic environment: thumbtacks were deployed as weapons, Kyle O’Reilly used a Nintendo Entertainment System during the contest, Kevin Knight was knocked from the top of the cage through tables, and Lio Rush made an appearance at ringside. Briscoe’s team – consisting of O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, Darby Allin, and Konosuke Takeshita – defeated the opposing side of MJF, Andrade, Doyle, Knight, Kyle Fletcher, and Kazuchika Okada. The stipulation tied victory directly to a championship opportunity, raising the stakes beyond a standard tag-team bout.

The win delivers Briscoe his shot at the AEW World Championship, a title MJF has held while operating under the backing of the Don Callis Family faction. Andrade’s defection severs his alignment with that group and positions him as an adversary to both MJF and Don Callis going forward.

Briscoe is scheduled to receive his AEW World Championship match against MJF on AEW Dynamite on Wednesday.
