Bandari FC aren’t apologising for anything.

The coastal club have broken their silence on the controversial penalty reversal during Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Gor Mahia at Kasarani. Referee Phanuel Omire initially awarded Gor a spot-kick in the 83rd minute after a challenge on Shariff Musa — but after Bandari captain Allaine Ngeleka’s protests, he consulted his assistant and changed his decision.

Gor Mahia were furious. Bandari were not surprised.

“In line with FKF Laws of the Game, referees are permitted to seek guidance from their assistants when they do not have a clear view of an incident,” the club said in a statement. They pointed to a similar reversal against them in their match against Bidco United as precedent.

Standard procedure, they insist. The debate, however, is far from over.
