Boniface Opens Up on Depression After Injuries, Car Crash and Failed Transfers

Victor Boniface has had enough of pretending he is fine. The Super Eagles forward took to X on Sunday to say what many had suspected — “Depression real die.”

The 26-year-old’s last two years have been brutal. Groin surgery in early 2024 ruled him out of AFCON. A thigh injury on international duty ended his season early. A serious car crash on a German highway in October 2024. Knee surgery in January 2026. And in between, a 15-hour airport ordeal in Libya without food or water during a qualifier.

The football has not been kind either. A move to AC Milan collapsed over medical concerns about his knee. An Al-Nassr deal fell through. On loan at Werder Bremen, he went 11 Bundesliga games without a goal.

Boniface made his name at Bayer Leverkusen. Right now, he is just trying to find himself again.
