CAF hands Eto’o four-match ban over AFCON incident

Samuel Eto’o has been suspended for four matches by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following his conduct during the Africa Cup of Nations, the governing body announced. The ban relates to Eto’o’s behaviour during Cameroon’s AFCON campaign, where he was cited for improper conduct toward match officials.

CAF said the sanction was imposed after a disciplinary review found violations of its code of conduct. “Respect for officials and competition integrity is non-negotiable,” CAF noted, confirming the ban will apply to Cameroon’s next four CAF-sanctioned fixtures.

Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation, criticised the ruling. “I acted out of passion for my country,” he said. “I do not believe this decision is fair.”

A CAF official defended the move, adding: “High-profile figures must set the right example, especially at major tournaments.”

The suspension deepens the fallout from Cameroon’s AFCON exit and puts fresh focus on Eto’o’s role as a football administrator.
