CAS Sets May 7 Date for Morocco vs Senegal AFCON Title Showdown

The fight for Africa’s biggest prize is moving to a courtroom in Lausanne.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has fixed May 7 as the date to hear Senegal’s appeal against CAF’s decision to strip them of the AFCON title and hand it to Morocco. Senegal won the final 1-0 on the pitch in January — but controversy erupted in stoppage time when Morocco were awarded a late penalty. Senegal’s players briefly walked off in protest before returning to see out the game.
CAF ruled in March that Senegal had forfeited the match and declared Morocco champions. Senegal immediately appealed — to CAF and to CAS.
Their case at CAS asks for the original result to be restored. Morocco insist the matter is closed. May 7 will decide who’s right.
