Chelle to Scour Europe for New Dual Nationals Ahead of Unity Cup in May

Eric Chelle is casting his net wide. The Super Eagles head coach confirmed he will actively scout European-based players of Nigerian descent ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup in London next month — and NPFL standouts could also get their chance.

“The Unity Cup provides a platform to assess new players,” Chelle said. Top performers from the domestic league will be considered alongside dual nationals who have previously been called up but not featured, and fresh faces entirely.

Nigeria open against Zimbabwe on May 26 at The Valley — Charlton Athletic’s ground — with Jamaica or India potential final opponents. Chelle used previous Unity Cup squads to blood the likes of Benjamin Fredrick, Felix Agu and Chinemerem Ugwueze. This time he wants to go further in his search.

Europe, he says, will be combed.
