Ex-Fenerbahce coach questions Osimhen’s big-game impact

Former Fenerbahce coach Domenico Tedesco has questioned Victor Osimhen’s influence in crucial matches after Galatasaray’s tense derby clash with their Istanbul rivals in the Turkish Super Lig.
Speaking after the heated encounter, Tedesco claimed his side managed to contain the Nigerian striker despite Galatasaray relying heavily on him in attack. “We defended the long balls to Osimhen well,” the coach said. “In matches like this, winning second balls is decisive.”
Osimhen played 89 minutes in the 1-1 draw but struggled to impose himself, registering three shots and around 30 touches as Fenerbahce’s defense crowded him out of space.
Despite the criticism, the 27-year-old remains a key figure for Galatasaray, having delivered strong numbers in Europe while leading the line throughout the season. However, Tedesco insisted big games require more than individual talent. “You cannot control such matches easily,” he added. “You must win duels and second balls.”
Galatasaray still sit near the top of the Super Lig standings, but their title race with Fenerbahce remains tight.
