Femi Azeez Leads Seven Nigerians Who Stood Out in Championship Season

The Championship season is done. And Nigeria left a mark on it.

Femi Azeez was the standout. The Millwall forward finished with 11 goals and eight assists from 35 appearances — a 19-goal contribution that earned him a spot in the Team of the Tournament. His rating of 7.36 put him above everyone else on this list. A Super Eagles call-up looks inevitable.

Behind him: Caleb Okoli at Leicester, solid defensively despite the club’s League One drop. Femi Seriki at Sheffield United — six assists from right-back, firmly on the national team radar. Ryan Alebiosu got his first Nigeria call-up mid-season and came home with AFCON bronze.

Semi Ajayi kept Hull’s backline together, averaging 5.1 clearances a game. Arthur Okonkwo made 111 saves for Wrexham and completed his FIFA eligibility switch to Nigeria — 10 clean sheets from 39 games. David Ozoh played 33 games for Derby and contributed two goals before confirming his departure.

Seven Nigerians. One league. A good summer of football
