Knicks storm back to shock Cavs in Game 1 as James Harden’s defensive play comes under scrutiny
Brunson sparks Knicks comeback win over Cavaliers in series opener
The New York Knicks defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 115-104 after trailing by as many as 22 points in Game 1. Jalen Brunson scored 38 points and delivered key baskets in the fourth quarter and overtime.
James Harden finished with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists but committed six turnovers and finished minus-6. Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson said the team sent extra defenders at Brunson in the fourth quarter yet still struggled defensively during the Knicks rally.
Knicks coach Mike Brown stated the team targeted Harden on defense throughout the game. Harden acknowledged Brunson made difficult shots and noted the need for better team support when defenders are isolated.
Game 2 is set for Thursday at 8 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden.
