NFF decorates 30 referees with FIFA badges

The Nigeria Football Federation on Monday decorated 30 match officials with FIFA badges in Abuja, as NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau issued a stern warning on integrity amid expanded live broadcast coverage of domestic leagues.

Gusau said the move comes as more Nigerian league matches are televised globally, increasing scrutiny on officiating standards. “Our matches are now live on several stations, and we plan to reach 30 before the season ends,” he said. “There is no hiding place for misconduct.”

He warned that any referee found guilty of improper conduct would have their badge withdrawn immediately. “If you misbehave, you will surrender your badge and uniform. No one will intercede for you,” Gusau added.

Of the 30 officials honoured, 11 are referees, 11 assistant referees, while four each serve in futsal and beach soccer, marking a renewed push for credibility in Nigerian football.
