NFF files appeal after FIFA rejects DR Congo protest

Nigeria Football Federation has launched an appeal after FIFA dismissed its complaint over DR Congo’s playoff win in Rabat that ended the Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup hopes.

DR Congo progressed 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw, booking a March 27 playoff in Mexico. Nigeria had accused their opponents of using ineligible players, but FIFA’s disciplinary body rejected the claim.

“We are not satisfied with the decision,” NFF secretary general Mohammed Sanusi said. “We have immediately started the appeal process.”

Former defender Theodore Chukwuemeka cast doubt on the move, saying: “There must be something the NFF is not telling Nigerians,” pointing to Nigeria’s fixtures in Turkey on the same dates as the global playoff.

The NFF now hopes the appeal can still reopen the case.
