Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal set for WAFCON 2026 showdown in Abidjan

Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal will be among the headline acts at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, set to be staged in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, after CAF this week confirmed the host city and final lineup. Scheduled for July 2026, the tournament will bring together the continent’s elite as Africa’s women’s game hits a new competitive peak.
Nine-time champions Nigeria’s Super Falcons arrive as the team to beat, while Ghana and Senegal head to Abidjan buoyed by impressive qualification runs. “Our target is clear — we want the title,” Nigeria head coach Randy Waldrum said, underlining the need for depth and consistency. Ghana’s coach agreed, calling the upcoming edition “the toughest WAFCON so far.”
Senegal, quarter-finalists at the last tournament, believe the stage is set for a breakthrough. “We’ve matured both tactically and mentally,” captain Nguenar Ndiaye said. Local organisers have also expressed confidence, insisting Abidjan is “ready to welcome Africa’s best teams and fans.”
