Nigeria Releases ₦200m to 26 Stars for Glasgow 2026

The National Sports Commission has injected ₦200 million into the preparations of 26 Nigerian athletes ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, rolling out targeted training grants to sharpen the country’s medal push.
Announced in Abuja this week, the funding will support overseas camps, elite coaching and competition exposure as Team Nigeria builds early momentum toward Scotland 2026. “This is about giving our best athletes the tools to succeed,” an NSC official said. “We want them focused solely on performance.”
Another commission source stressed that timely backing is crucial. “Major events are won in preparation, not on the day,” the official noted.
The beneficiaries, drawn from multiple sports, are set to begin intensified programmes as Nigeria eyes a stronger podium finish at the next Commonwealth Games.
