Nigeria stun Egypt 4-2 in AFCON 2025 opener

Nigeria made a flying start to AFCON 2025 with a 4-2 win over Egypt on Monday, delivering a high-tempo performance in their Group A opener. The Super Eagles took charge early, using speed and sharp finishing to overwhelm the seven-time champions.
“We played with courage and purpose,” coach José Peseiro said. “The players executed the plan perfectly.” Nigeria’s fluid attack kept Egypt under constant pressure, opening a decisive gap despite a brief fightback.
Egypt coach Rui Vitória admitted his side faltered defensively, saying, “We were punished for small mistakes.” A former Nigeria international called the display “a clear warning to the rest of the group.”
