Okolie stops Tetteh early in heavyweight debut bout

Lawrence Okolie made a commanding start to his heavyweight career by stopping Ebenezer Tetteh in the opening rounds on Saturday night, delivering a statement win in his first fight in the division. The bout, held in the UK on a stacked fight card, ended decisively as Okolie’s power and control proved too much for the experienced Ghanaian.
From the opening bell, Okolie pressed forward, using his reach and sharp jab to dictate the pace before landing heavy shots that forced the referee’s intervention. Tetteh struggled to absorb the pressure as the fight tilted quickly in the former world champion’s favour.
“I wanted to show that I belong at heavyweight,” Okolie said after the fight. “This is just the beginning for me in this division.” Tetteh was gracious in defeat, admitting, “He was strong and didn’t give me time to settle.” A ringside analyst noted that Okolie “looked physically comfortable and dangerous at the new weight.”
The victory marks an important step for Okolie as he targets bigger fights at heavyweight, while the bout also set the tone for an action-packed night of boxing.
