Okoye Silences Injury Fears With Udinese Clean Sheet on Serie A Return

Fit-Again Okoye Keeps Clean Sheet for Udinese After Super Eagles Scare

Maduka Okoye is back. And he announced his return in the best way possible.

The Nigeria goalkeeper, 26, had been forced off during Super Eagles training ahead of the Jordan friendly after picking up a thigh injury on international duty. He had just impressed in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Iran. Then the setback hit.

But on Monday, Okoye was back between the posts for Udinese — and delivered a commanding performance in a 0-0 draw against Como in Serie A Round 31.

The clean sheet was earned. In the 10th minute alone he blocked a powerful low drive from Maximo Perrone. He then cut out a dangerous ball from Lucas Da Cunha, and stood firm against efforts from Nico Paz and a Sergi Roberto header. His positioning and communication kept Udinese’s backline organised throughout.

It was a significant moment for Okoye — his first outing since the injury scare — and a boost for Udinese as they look to consolidate their mid-table standing.

The clean sheet is his. The worry is over.
