Okoye to Undergo Medical Tests After Super Eagles Thigh Injury

Maduka Okoye’s international break ended before it really started. The Udinese goalkeeper picked up a thigh injury during a training session in Turkey and was ruled out of the Jordan friendly before it even kicked off.
“Okoye picked up a thigh knock during training and will no longer be available for selection,” confirmed Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe. With that, Okoye headed straight back to Italy.
It is a frustrating blow. He had only just fought his way back into Eric Chelle’s plans, starting in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Iran days earlier. Now he faces an anxious wait as Udinese specialists run tests to determine the severity of the damage.
Francis Uzoho stepped up to start the Jordan match instead. Okoye will not join Udinese’s first-team training until the assessment results are clear. The club are cautiously optimistic about his chances of featuring in their Easter Monday fixture against Como — but nothing is confirmed yet.
Miss the Jordan game. Return for Como. That is the hope. The scans will say whether that timeline holds.
