Oliseh criticises Turkish league after Lookman snubs Fenerbahce

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has taken a swipe at the Turkish league following Ademola Lookman’s decision to reject a move to Fenerbahce, a stance that also reopened debate around Victor Osimhen’s career choices.

Reacting this week, Oliseh questioned the sporting value of the Turkish Super Lig for elite players, arguing that top Nigerian stars should target Europe’s strongest competitions. “The Turkish league is not the level our best players should be aiming for,” Oliseh said in a social media post.

His comments came after reports that Lookman turned down interest from Fenerbahce, preferring to wait for offers from bigger leagues. Oliseh added that such decisions show “ambition and clarity,” while warning players against moves driven only by money.

The remarks also reignited comparisons with Osimhen, who has previously been linked with Turkish clubs. Analysts say Oliseh’s blunt views reflect a wider concern about career planning among African stars.

As transfer talks continue, the debate over the right pathway for Nigeria’s top talents remains firmly in the spotlight.
