Oshoala urges Nigeria to host AFCON after Morocco

Asisat Oshoala has called on Nigeria to bid to host a future Africa Cup of Nations, pointing to Morocco’s organisation and influence as a clear example to follow. The Super Falcons star spoke after AFCON 2025, stressing that Nigeria has the capacity to stage the tournament if the right structures are put in place.

Oshoala praised Morocco’s infrastructure and planning, saying it gave the hosts a major advantage. “Morocco showed what preparation and investment can do,” she said. “Nigeria has the potential to host AFCON if we take football seriously.”

The six-time African Player of the Year added that hosting would boost development and pride. “We have the fans, the history and the talent,” Oshoala noted. “What we need is commitment.”

Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh echoed the view, stating: “Hosting AFCON pushes standards higher. Morocco proved that.”

Oshoala concluded that Nigeria must act decisively. “If we want respect and progress, we must invest and lead,” she said.
