Pinnick backs Eric Chelle to revive Nigeria Super Eagles

Former NFF president Amaju Pinnick has thrown his support behind Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, urging patience as Nigeria rebuilds after recent struggles. Speaking in early February 2026, Pinnick said Chelle deserves time to implement his ideas despite mixed results in competitive fixtures.
Nigeria have endured an inconsistent run, including dropped points in World Cup qualifiers, raising concerns among fans. However, Pinnick stressed that Chelle’s appointment was based on a long-term vision. “You don’t judge a coach by a few games,” Pinnick said. “Eric Chelle has the character and tactical knowledge to succeed with this team.”
Chelle, who took charge amid high expectations, admitted the challenge ahead. “This is a process. We are laying foundations, not chasing shortcuts,” the coach said in a recent media briefing. Former international Sunday Oliseh also weighed in, noting that “stability is what the Super Eagles need right now.”
Nigeria remain rich in talent, with key players featuring regularly across Europe, and Pinnick believes consistency in leadership will be crucial as the Super Eagles target qualification and a return to dominance on the continent.
