Pochettino's USMNT World Cup roster reportedly set ahead of June opener
The United States men’s national team has reportedly finalized a 26-player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to sources cited in multiple reports, with U.S. Soccer not expected to make a formal announcement until after Memorial Day. Midfielder Brenden Aaronson, defender Mark McKenzie, goalkeeper Matt Turner, and attacking midfielder Giovanni Reyna are among the players expected to be named, per The Athletic. Midfielder Sebastian Berhalter, son of former USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter, is also reportedly included.
Reyna’s inclusion, if confirmed, would mark a notable development for the 23-year-old Borussia Mönchengladbach player, who was sent home from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar amid reported behavioral issues. He logged 509 minutes for his club this past season, according to the draft material, and has publicly expressed a desire to represent the United States on home soil. Aaronson, by contrast, featured for the USMNT at the 2022 tournament.
Not everyone made the cut. Real Salt Lake midfielder Diego Luna, who scored four goals in 18 appearances for the national team and contributed 22 goals over three club seasons, was reportedly left off the final squad. Teammate Zavier Gozo was also informed he would not be part of the summer roster.
The United States, one of three host nations alongside Canada and Mexico, opens its World Cup campaign on June 12 against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who took charge of the program ahead of the tournament cycle.
