Super Eagles Head to London to Defend Unity Cup Title in May

Nigeria will return to London in late May to defend their Unity Cup crown — a rare piece of good news for a squad still processing the pain of World Cup failure.

The four-nation invitational tournament runs from May 26 to 30, with Jamaica, India and one unconfirmed team joining the Super Eagles. Nigeria won the previous edition, beating Jamaica on penalties in the final. They go in as defending champions.

Coach Eric Chelle will use the tournament as a testing ground. With no World Cup to prepare for, the Unity Cup offers a genuine window to assess fringe players, bed in new faces and start building toward AFCON 2027. The Brentford Community Stadium is expected to host the games, as it did in the tournament’s previous editions.

For Jamaica, who reached the World Cup playoff final before losing to DR Congo, it is a chance to keep momentum going. India, meanwhile, will be testing themselves against significantly stronger opposition.

For Nigeria, it is about more than a trophy. Chelle needs answers. The Unity Cup gives him 90 minutes at a time to find them.
