Super Eagles Stars Score Before AFCON Camp Reporting

Several Nigeria Super Eagles players delivered goals for their clubs on Sunday, just days before reporting to the national team camp ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke, Cyriel Dessers and Salim Fago Lawal all found the net across Europe, giving head coach Eric Chelle encouraging signs as preparations intensify for Nigeria’s AFCON opener next week.

Adams, Ejuke Shine in Sevilla’s 4–0 Win

Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke were both on target as Sevilla cruised to a 4–0 home victory over Real Oviedo at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

Adams opened the scoring in the fourth minute after being released by a perfectly weighted chip from Alexis Sánchez, calmly finishing past goalkeeper Aarón Escandell for his early breakthrough. Sevilla dominated possession and tempo throughout the contest, limiting Oviedo to few clear chances.

Ejuke sealed the emphatic win late on, scoring in the 89th minute after receiving the ball on the left flank, weaving past three defenders and finishing through the goalkeeper’s legs.

“It’s always special to score and help the team win,” Adams said in comments published by Sevilla’s official media. “This result gives us confidence, and I’m happy to be heading into national duty in good form.”

Dessers Breaks Through for Panathinaikos

Cyriel Dessers returned to the scoresheet for Panathinaikos on Sunday, netting his first goal in three months as the Greek club edged a 2–1 victory.

The Nigeria striker, a summer arrival from Rangers, had been slowed by an early-season injury and was handed his first league start since September. He needed only five minutes to make the difference, finishing early to set the tone in a tight, hard-fought match.

“It’s been a difficult period, but I stayed patient,” Dessers told Panathinaikos club media. “Scoring again feels great, and I’m building momentum at the right time.”

Lawal Scores as Fog Halts Croatian Match

New Super Eagles call-up Salim Fago Lawal was also on the scoresheet for Istra in their Croatian top-flight clash against Rijeka.

Lawal opened the scoring in the fifth minute after reacting quickest to a rebound, dribbling past the goalkeeper and finishing calmly. Rijeka equalised shortly after through Luka Menalo, but the match was abandoned in the 18th minute due to heavy fog and has been rescheduled for January 2026.

Chelle Welcomes Attacking Momentum Before AFCON

All invited Super Eagles players are now expected to travel to Egypt to join the national team camp ahead of upcoming fixtures, including a preparatory match against Egypt.

Head coach Eric Chelle welcomed the strong club performances, particularly from Nigeria’s attackers, who appear to be hitting form at a crucial stage.

“It’s encouraging to see our forwards scoring before camp,” Chelle said via federation media. “Confidence is very important ahead of a major tournament, and this gives us a positive foundation.”

Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen were also involved in goals for their respective clubs over the weekend, further boosting optimism within the camp.

Nigeria will begin their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Tanzania next Tuesday.
