Team Nigeria opens Aberdeen camp ahead of 2026 Games

Team Nigeria has opened an early training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, as preparations begin for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The camp, launched this week, is designed to help athletes acclimatise, build fitness and fine-tune preparations well ahead of the multi-sport event.

Officials said the move reflects lessons from past Games and the need for early planning. “Starting early gives our athletes the best chance to compete at the highest level,” a team official noted. Another official added that Aberdeen offers “the right facilities and environment to prepare properly.”

The camp will host selected athletes and coaches across key sports, with more disciplines expected to join in phases. “Our focus is long-term performance, not last-minute preparations,” a coach said.

Nigeria is targeting a stronger showing in Glasgow after mixed results at recent Commonwealth Games, with the Aberdeen camp seen as a key step toward podium success.
