Umea sign Godwin till 2028, awaits work permit

Swedish third-tier side Umea FC have signed Nigerian midfielder Fredrick Godwin on a deal running until 2028, though the move is pending a work permit as the player remains in Nigeria.

Godwin joins from Norway’s Mjöndalen IF, where he featured 26 times last season, clocking over 1,300 minutes. The defensive midfielder is known for his work rate and discipline. “I focus on doing the basics right and helping the team,” Godwin said after the move.

Sporting director Adam Chennoufi praised the signing, saying, “He covers ground, competes hard, and is comfortable on the ball.”

Godwin becomes Umea’s second African recruit this window after Zambian attacker Zishim Bawa, continuing the club’s recent trend of tapping into African talent.
