Yekini leads Nigeria’s greatest Super Eagles scorers

Rashidi Yekini remains Nigeria’s greatest goalscorer, topping the Super Eagles’ all-time list ahead of fellow legends as debate continues over the nation’s finest finishers. The former striker scored 37 goals for Nigeria, setting a benchmark that still defines excellence at international level.
Yekini’s record places him above Segun Odegbami, who netted 23 goals, and the late Stephen Keshi, whose leadership and crucial strikes shaped Nigeria’s golden era. More recent stars such as Yakubu Aiyegbeni, with 21 goals, and Obafemi Martins, who scored 18 times, carried that tradition into the modern game.
“Scoring for Nigeria was always about pride,” Odegbami once said in a radio interview, reflecting on an era when results united the country. Yakubu echoed that sentiment, noting that “every goal in the green shirt meant everything to me.”
A football analyst told Brila FM that Yekini’s legacy still inspires today’s forwards. “He didn’t just score goals, he carried expectations,” he said.
As Nigeria continue to produce attacking talent, Yekini’s record remains the ultimate target for the next generation of Super Eagles stars.
